Mrs. DePalma's 6th Grade Science
Welcome to Middle School Science in room 23 with Mrs. DePalma! I am so happy to have you in my class. I love teaching Sixth grade and I hope that passion translates into a great experience for all students in my classroom! I am very excited to be launching our new science digital curriculum STEMscopes, an online science curriculum from Accelerate Learning, as our primary instructional resource for teaching science. This is an amazing resource that will provide a wonderful classroom environment for investigation and exploration!
The STEMscopes program is strictly aligned to the new Michigan K-12 Science Standards that are based upon the Next Generation Science Standards. The new standards are really a set of student performance expectations. These performance expectations incorporate three main elements:
STEMscopes is built on an instructional philosophy that centers on students learning science through hands-on exploration and inquiry. STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Each lesson includes a series of investigations and activities to bring science to life for our students so that they can “learn by doing” and fully engage in the scientific process.
STEMscopes is 100% online and is accessible 24/7. What is amazing about this curriculum is that we never have to worry about out of date text books. If Pluto is readmitted as a planet tomorrow, STEMscopes is ready to make the change that same day across all digital content so students can continue to grow and achieve at a high level.
We are eager to implement this resource at Strong Middle School and encourage your involvement. Login information is provided below. If you have any questions, please contact your student’s science teacher.
Thank you,
The Strong Middle School Science Department

- Disciplinary Core Ideas (science specific concepts in the life, earth, and physical sciences),
- Science and Engineering Practices (the practices of engaging in scientific investigation to answer questions, and engineering design to solve problems),
- Cross-Cutting Concepts (conceptual ideas common to all areas of science).
